March of Microanalysis Day 14

Microfiction Entry Day 14:

He thought the ring was cursed. Actually, he just had terrible luck with brides.

I wrote this one just for Valentine’s Day. Sweet, huh? I’ve always been interested in how people seek out patterns, and how they warp evidence to fit a theory...just as our bridegroom does here. He doesn’t want to believe that he’s just made wrong/bad/unfortunate choices, so he decides it’s all the fault of the ring. And by foisting his own uncertainties and resentment towards fate onto the ring, his is subtly giving the ring the very power he fears. The shorter way to say that is “self-fulfilling prophecy.” I should really be employing more microanalysis of this microfiction, instead of going on as I do. Anyway, this story is a fine romance*. Oui?

Through March, I'm posting a breakdown/analysis of the microfiction I posted on the corresponding day in February. This is probably only interesting to you if you care about the mechanics of writing.
